The Freshmen
Class at Mt. Assisi Academy were asked to write an essay about a grade school
teacher that has impacted their life in some way. Alum Carla Roszczybiuk (St. Bernadette Class of 2011) wrote
the essay about our very own Mrs. Terry Lonergan. Grade school teachers from
all over the Chicagoland area were invited to a special ceremony on December 8
that honors grade school teachers that have been nominated by current freshmen.
News from Thomas J. Norbot (St. Bernadette Class of 1995)" I am an enlisted member of the United
States Navy. I am a Cryptologic
Technician Second Class which is actually pretty cool work. I spent
four years on a Frigate(USS
Nicholas) out of Norfolk, VA. Where I did 2 deployments, one a joint
“war games” with many NATO countries and we visited all of Europe, and
the second we did counter piracy operations in Africa. All in all, I’ve
been to about 30 different countries in Europe
and Africa. Including Rome on Christmas Day, which is unreal I must
say. My ship on April 1st 2010 was attacked by Somali
pirates and we suppressed and detained them(I was on the Ship’s Boarding
Team). They now are serving life sentences in the
Virginia state penitentiary system. I am off the ship now and am
serving my shore duty time at the Naval Post Graduate School in
Monterey, California."
Kerry Dean Jr (St. Bernadette Class of 2008) represented
Mount Carmel H.S. in the Class 3A - 200 meter Dash, Triple Jump, 4x200, and 4x400 in the Illinois Prep Top Times Indoor Classic on March 26. This meet is recognized as State Final for the indoor track and field
season and entry is by invitation only and based on elite performances
acquired during the indoor season. Here is the link to his results: Illinois Prep Top Times Indoor Classic 3/29/11 Congratulations to Christopher Cheatham (St. Bernadette Class of 2008) on being named "Athlete of the Week" by EvergreenParkPatch.com. Chris is a junior at Evergreen Park High School and proved his talent on Saturday at an indoor track meet in Romeoville. He placed first in the 55-meter high hurdles with a time of 8.0 seconds. He will compete in the Illinois Prep Top Times meet this weekend at Illinois Wesleyan University. 3/21/11
Congratulations to Mary Sullivan (St. Bernadette Class of 2005) part of a Mock Trial Competition Team from Trinity College in Hartford Connecticut, that is headed to the finals in Des Moines, Iowa on April 15. To read more: Trinity College Mock Trial Competition
Sarah Memmesheimer, (St. Bernadette Class of 2004) recently made the Deans List at St. Francis College in Joliet. 2/9/11
 Spc. Brian Mieszala, (St. Bernadette Class of 1998) US Army 101st Airborne Division, serving in Afghanistan since Spring 2010 recently received the Army Commendation Medal with a "V" Device from General David Petraeus. Brian's younger brother Pfc. Daniel Mieszala, US Army 82nd Airborne Division, is currently serving at Ft. Bragg in North Carolina. 10/15/10

Cheyenne Tatum, (St. Bernadette Class of 2009) will be appearing in Hair Spray at the Beverly Arts Center December 2-5. Tickets are available at www.beverlyartscenter.org 11/10/10
In Your Prayers Kindly Remember Brian Carey (St. Bernadette Class of 1995). Brian was a firefighter who was killed early morning on March 31, 2010 trying to save an elderly man from his burning home in Homewood, Illinois. Our sincerest sympathies go out to the Carey family. Brian was a part of a very close-knit and loving family. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends. 4/1/10
Hannah Thies (St. Bernadette Class of 2005) recently made the deans list with a 4.0 GPA for the fall semester at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston. "We are very proud and attribute much of her success to her years at St. Bernadette" commented her father, Eric Thies.
Anne Schnitzenbaumer (St. Bernadette Class of 2003) has been named to the fall 2009 dean's list at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana.
Kyle Jachim (St. Bernadette Class of 2006) a senior at St. Rita High School signed a letter of intent for Butler University. Kyle, a St. Rita Mustang football player helped St. Rita obtain its most recent Prep Bowl Championship and looks forward to the opportunity to play college football.
Sarah Memmesheimer (St. Bernadette Class of 2004) made the first semester dean's list at the University of St. Francis in Joliet. 2/5/10
Tom McNamara (St. Bernadette Class of 1999) will present a paper entitled Discursive Revision: Norths Idea and the Dialectical Writing Center at the Chicagoland Writing Centers Conference in February. Tom is currently employed at DePaul University as a Lecturer in the First-Year Writing Program and also coordinates the universitys Suburban Campus Writing Center services. A graduate of Loras College (BA, 2007) and Loyola University Chicago (MA, 2008), Tom recently completed summer graduate coursework in theology at the University of Notre Dame. 2/5/10
Catherine Anzelmo (Class of 2005) made the dean's list for the fall 2009 semester at Illinois State University in Bloomington-Normal. 2/5/10
Tara McQuillan (St. Bernadette Class of 2006) recently received the Chick Evans Caddie Scholarship, a full-tuition and housing scholarship. Currently a senior at Mother McAuley, Tara will use her Evans Scholarship to study at Marquette University. 2/2/10
Joseph Kirkland (98) is a graduate of Boston University, where he double majored in Film and English and graduated Magna Cum Laude. Currently, Joseph is working as a film editor in Los Angeles. 2/2/10
Kyle Schnitzenbaumer (99) began his PhD in Chemistry at the University of Colorado in Boulder this past fall. Kyle is a graduate of Marist High School and Illinois Wesleyan University. 2/2/10
Patrick Kirkland (02) currently attends the University of Notre Dame, where he majors in Finance and has achieved the following: Four-time Deans List Award winner, Notre Dame Scholar, Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship, Comcast Leaders and Achievers Scholarship, Fisher Hall Vice President. 2/2/10
Four of St. Rita's Valedictorians in the past seven years have been St. Bernadette graduates. Both Robert and Chuck Hunter (Bernadette Classes of 2002 and 2004) and Joseph and Patrick Kirkland (Classes of 1998 and 2002) have achieved this honor at St. Rita.
Anne Schnitzenbaumer (Class of 2003) received a grant through the Phi Kappa Phi National Honors Society. She was one of 50 recipients and applied the grant to a study abroad program in Ireland last summer. Anne attends Ball State University, where she studies Architecture. 2/2/10
Congratulations Mike Kelly ~ St. Bernadette Class of 2002 Named to the College of Arts and Sciences' Dean's List at Loyola University-Chicago for the first semester of the 2009/2010 academic year. Mike is a biology major with a pre-med focus. 2/2/10
Congratulations Tom Kelly ~ St. Bernadette Class of 2006 Received the ST. Rita HS Heeney Award. This award is given to any student who receives straight A's on their report card. Tom was one of 36 students at St. Rita HS who received this award for the Fall of 2009 semester. 2/2/10

Congratulations Terrence Brennan ~ St. Bernadette Class of 2006 St. Rita HS is proud to announce that Terrence was one of 31 students who received straigh A's for the Spring Semester 2009.
Congratulations Maryl Pinotti ~St. Bernadette Class of 2006 Maryl was elected Snow Queen of Evergreen Park High School.She will represent the school at various events throughout the year including the 4th of July parade. Maryl is also on the 2008/2009 Principal's Advisory Council that discusses academics, athletics and activities with the principal.
Congratulations Frank Boyle ~ St. Bernadette Class of 2006 Frank was elected Snow King of Evergreen Park High School. He will represent the school at various events throughout the year.
Congratulations Caitlin Strimel ~ St. Bernadette Class of 2002 For the second consecutive season, Western Michigan University's Caitlin Strimel was chosen Mid-American Conference's Defensive Player of the Year in Women's Volleyball.

Class of 1955 Judi (Greenan) Lafferty of Smartsville, California dropped by St. Bernadette on the way to her 55th Class Reunion being held in Mokena on the weekend of October 15. Judi was thankful to fellow alum Sandy (O'Malley) Halper for planning the event. More than half of the 50 classmates were expected to attend the reunion. 10/15/10

Emily McGinnis, a graduate of St. Bernadette School, recently returned to read to the 2nd graders. Emily is studying to be a teacher and needed to read to students as a requirement for her college class. The students enjoyed the story Taxi Dog as well as a visit with Miss McGinnis (Class of 2002).
